1. What does each ESL Movie Resource Title include?

Each ESL Movie Resource Title contains photocopiable activities for a key contemporary film. The ESL Movie Resource Titles include four lessons, each around 3.5 hours in length, to be used with four sections of the movie (generally 20-30 mins of viewing time). Each lesson contains:

  • Map of the activities
  • Lesson plan
  • Activities:
    • Pre-viewing
    • Viewing
    • Optional
    • Post-viewing
  • Answer key

The Map of the Activities provides an overview of the activities for each lesson in the ESL Movie Resource title. It outlines the activity names and types, lesson plan page, activity pages, answer key pages, preparation required, DVD times and chapters.

The Lesson Plan includes detailed instructions for each activity, from a step-by-step guide to preparing and using the activities. It also includes tips and hints on using the activities in class.

The Pre-Viewing Activities are photocopiable activities to prepare students fro the  movie viewing, such as warmers, review activities, vocabulary review activities, vocabulary activities and DVD review activities.

The Viewing Activities are photocopiable worksheets with a wide range of listening and discussion activities that are specifically designed for each section of the movie.

The Optional Viewing Activities are supplementary photocopiable activities which include gap-fill activities, listening activities, memory quizzes and speaking activities. These are designed for a specific scene in the movie.

The Post-Viewing Activities include discussion activities and photocopiable Writing Tasks, with topics relating to themes within the movie section.

The Answer Key sections provide answers to all activities in the lesson.

6. How do I choose an ESL Movie Resource Title for my class?

It's easy - just follow these steps:

  • Look at our products page and select the ESL Movie Resource Titles for your students' level (Elementary, Intermediate or Advanced).
  • Read the plot summaries and select the title/s that you think will appeal the most to your students.
  • Purchase the ESL Movie Resource Title/s using our secure online payment system.
  • Your ESL Movie Resource Title/s will be posted within 1-2 working days.

7. What will I need to use an ESL Movie Resource Title?

There is some basic equipment that you will need:

  • The DVD (or video) of the movie
  • A TV and DVD (or video) player
  • A photocopier to copy the worksheets and activities
  • Scissors or a guillotine machine to cut up some of the activities
  • Coloured paper for some activities (not necessary, but it adds fun and makes it easier to sort the cards into groups)
  • Laminating machine (not necessary, but will reduce future preparation time and resources)
  • A class of students ready for exciting new lessons

And, of course, a wonderful teacher (that's you) to guide the students through the activities.

8. How often should I use these lessons?

Each ESL Movie Resource Title contains four lessons (each up to 3.5 hours in length). We recommend that you use the lessons one day a week over four weeks. This gives students the opportunity to reflect on the previous lesson and complete the Writing Task (as well as any corrections) before the next lesson.

9. What are the legal requirements for showing a movie in a classroom?

As these requirements vary from country to country, and are liable to change, we suggest that you contact the relevant copyright organisation in your country:
